1. Pricing Comparison
The price you see on the plan page and the price you actually pay 12 months in are rarely the same number on either platform.
| Plan Level | GoDaddy Airo | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Airo AI Builder: 1 site, 50 credits/mo | Free site with Wix branding, no payment processing |
| Entry paid | Website Builder Basic: $9.99/mo | Light: $17/mo |
| Mid-tier | Website Builder Premium: $14.99/mo | Core: $29/mo |
| eCommerce | Website Builder Commerce: $20.99/mo | Business: $39/mo |
| Advanced | Airo AI Builder Professional: $24.99/mo | Business Elite: $159/mo |
| Refund window | W+M: 7 days / Airo AI Builder: 30 days (unused credits) | 14 days (new plans only) |
| Subscription transaction fee | None on standard plans | 4% on Core, 2% on Business, 0% on Elite |
What the Numbers Mean in Practice
At first look, GoDaddy is significantly cheaper across the board. The Website Builder Basic plan at $9.99 per month versus Wix’s $17 Light plan, and the Commerce plan at $20.99 per month versus Wix’s Business plan at $39 per month, represent real savings.
But both platforms carry costs that do not appear on the plan comparison page, and those hidden costs change the calculation.
What Wix does not show on the plan page:
- The free domain voucher covers year one only. From year two, domain renewals cost $15 to $20 annually
- Wix Email Marketing is a separate subscription starting at $10 per month just to remove Wix branding from campaign footers
- Several features that feel like defaults (advanced analytics, certain booking tools) require third-party apps with their own monthly fees
- The subscription transaction fee of 4% on Core can quietly reshape your real monthly cost. At 100 subscribers paying $30 per month, the Core plan’s 4% fee adds $120 per month in charges on top of the $29 plan cost. Upgrading to Business at $39 saves money at that volume almost immediately
What GoDaddy does not show prominently:
- Renewal pricing on the Websites + Marketing plans is higher than introductory rates
- Professional email is not bundled, starting separately from $1.99 per mailbox per month
- Airo AI Builder credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and do not roll over, meaning a quiet month loses those credits permanently
- The Airo AI Builder free tier’s 50 monthly credits can run out faster than expected during active editing and building
Refund policies compared
Both platforms have refund windows, but the conditions matter as much as the duration:
- Wix offers 14 days on new premium plans only. Renewals and plan upgrades are explicitly excluded. If you upgrade from Core to Business and want a refund, the 14-day window does not apply
- GoDaddy’s Websites + Marketing plans carry a 7-day window. GoDaddy’s Airo AI Builder annual plans are refundable within 30 days, but only if no AI credits have been consumed and no AI-generated content has been downloaded or exported. The moment you start building, the 30-day window effectively closes
2. Ease of Use
The fastest path to a published website is not always the most intuitive one, and these two platforms take meaningfully different approaches to getting you there.
| Feature | GoDaddy Airo | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Text prompt (Airo AI Builder) or domain purchase (Website Builder) | AI chat or manual setup, no domain required |
| Onboarding style | Prompt + 2 follow-up questions / OR guided questionnaire | Conversational AI agent (Aria) with real-time panel updates |
| Editor type | Section-based with Edit mode toolbar | Open canvas, elements placed freely |
| Mobile preview | Device switch button in toolbar | Built-in mobile view, adaptive layout |
| Mobile control | Preview only | Adaptive but not fully responsive at breakpoints |
| Domain commitment upfront | Required for Website Builder, not for Airo AI Builder | Not required |
Getting Started: The Real Experience
GoDaddy Airo AI Builder starts with a single prompt field. You describe your business, click Start Building for Free, and the split-screen interface opens immediately.

A conversation panel sits on the left, a live canvas on the right. Before building anything, the AI asks two follow-up questions that are tailored to your specific business name, not generic categories:
- Visual style: options like organic luxury or refined Texan warmth, derived from your prompt
- Messaging tone: options like calm and considered or elevated and editorial

Once you answer, the planning phase shows its reasoning in the left panel before any building begins. You see the page structure, color palette, font pairing, and stock image selections in real time.
This transparency is useful because it gives you a chance to notice a direction you dislike before the AI spends credits building it.

GoDaddy Website Builder (the standard plan product) works differently. It requires a domain purchase before any AI generation begins, which means committing to a domain name before you have seen what the AI will build. After the domain step, a guided questionnaire collects business type, features needed, name, and contact information. A pricing gate then appears before you can see the generated result, which adds friction at the exact moment your curiosity is highest.
On mobile responsiveness: Airo AI Builder generates actual code (React and TypeScript components) rather than placing elements on a visual template canvas. This means mobile responsiveness is written into the CSS that the AI produces during the build, rather than being applied by an adaptive engine after the fact. In testing, the mobile preview for the Mara & Co. site showed sections stacking correctly and the layout adjusting cleanly for a smaller screen.
However, the editor does not give you visual breakpoint controls. You cannot open the mobile view and manually adjust how a specific section behaves at a particular screen width. What the AI builds in the code is what you get on mobile, and your main tool for changing that behavior is a follow-up prompt describing what you want adjusted.
Wix opens with a choice between AI chat onboarding and manual setup. The AI path uses a conversational agent called Aria that asks specific questions about your business type, products, location, and goals.

A setup panel on the right updates in real time as you answer, which makes the process feel transparent rather than opaque.

By the time you reach the editor, Aria has already:
- Installed relevant apps based on what you described
- Selected a color palette matched to your business type
- Generated a site structure and placed relevant sections
Inside the editor, Wix uses an open canvas where elements can be placed anywhere on the page. This gives more creative freedom than a section-based approach but also makes it easier to create a disorganized layout if you are not intentional.

The Quick Edit sidebar solves this for most users: clicking any section opens a panel that collects every editable field from that section into one form, so you can change a headline or swap an image without navigating individual elements one at a time.
On mobile responsiveness (GoDaddy Airo vs Wix)
Airo AI Builder generates actual code (React and TypeScript components) rather than placing elements on a visual template canvas.

In Wix, mobile responsiveness is adaptive, not fully responsive. The editor adjusts elements sensibly for mobile screens, but you cannot control layout decisions at specific breakpoints or change a three-column grid to a carousel on mobile specifically. If precise mobile control matters to your business, Wix Studio (the agency-focused platform, a separate product) has fluid responsiveness and custom CSS, but the standard Wix editor does not.

On Wix, if the AI-generated site structure is wrong, select “Not what I expected” at the generation stage rather than trying to restructure it manually in the editor. That reopens the conversation to try again.
3. AI and Site Generation
Both platforms use AI to generate your site, but the similarity ends the moment the first output appears on screen.
| AI Feature | GoDaddy Airo (AI Builder) | Wix (Aria) |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt input | Free-form natural language | Conversational Q&A |
| Follow-up questions | 2 questions tailored to your business name | Multiple category-specific questions |
| Planning transparency | Full real-time log of decisions | Real-time panel updates |
| Copy quality | Business-specific from prompt details | Category-level, contextual in some cases |
| Documented AI error | One mid-build processing error (recovered) | Misidentified clothing brand as restaurant |
| Follow-up editing | Chat prompt in the builder | Inline AI rewriting on the canvas |
| Build time | ~8 minutes (homepage) | Fast generation, under 2 minutes |
| Beta status | Yes, BETA label visible throughout | No |
What the AI Actually Built
The most revealing comparison is not what these platforms promise in their marketing. It’s what they produced when given real prompts in real testing.
GoDaddy Airo AI Builder with Mara & Co.:
I gave Airo AI Builder a detailed prompt describing a boutique interior design studio called Mara & Co. based in Austin, Texas, specializing in residential spaces with a focus on warm natural materials.
The results:
- Homepage headline: “Spaces that feel like you”
- Subheadline: a description of the studio’s approach to considered, personal design
- Services section: Full-Room Redesign, Furniture Sourcing, and Virtual Consultations named correctly and individually described
- Color palette: “Organic Luxury Warm Ivory,” a name that reflected the “organic luxury” style answer
- Typography: Cormorant Garamond for display text, Jost for body, appropriate for a design studio
- Page structure: Homepage, Portfolio/Work, Services, About, Contact, all planned before building began
- A follow-up prompt adding a testimonials section and changing a CTA button completed in 2 minutes

What the AI produced was specific to Mara & Co., not a generic interior design template. That distinction matters for any business that needs its website to communicate what makes it different from others in its category.
Wix Aria with two different business types:
The testing of Wix’s AI revealed a clear pattern: impressive contextual generation in one case, a notable failure in another.
In the coffee shop test, Aria generated an about section referencing Ethiopia and Colombia as sourcing regions without being prompted to do so. That is contextual intelligence working correctly, inferring specific details from category knowledge.

In the Urban Thread test (a sustainable clothing store), the AI generated a site titled “The Art of Food” with a hero image of someone eating.
The word “organic” in the sustainability description triggered a culinary category rather than a fashion one.

The error is fixable:
- The mismatch becomes visible as soon as the site loads
- Correcting it requires replacing the hero image, changing the site title, and regenerating key sections
- The fix takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes for someone who knows the editor
- But you will only catch it if you review the generated output carefully before sharing the URL with anyone
This is not a reason to dismiss Wix’s AI entirely. The coffee shop generation showed real capability. It is a reason to review every element of the AI-generated output before treating it as finished.
On the credit system: GoDaddy Airo vs Wix
Airo AI Builder uses a credit system where building and editing actions consume credits monthly. A few things worth knowing:
- Credits do not roll over at the end of the billing cycle
- The free tier provides 50 credits per month, which covers an initial build but may not cover extensive revisions
- More detailed prompts use credits more efficiently than vague ones, meaning the quality of your initial prompt directly affects how far your credits go
- The beta status means errors can occur mid-build, but the recovery process (clicking the page name in the Continue building panel) worked cleanly in testing
Wix operates on a completely different model. There is no AI credit system on Wix. Every AI action, whether rewriting a text block, generating a new section, removing an image background, or asking Aria to adjust copy, is available without a consumption limit on any paid plan. You can revise, regenerate, and experiment as many times as you need without watching a counter.
The implication for how you use each platform is significant:
- On GoDaddy Airo, front-load your effort into writing the best possible initial prompt and making deliberate choices in the follow-up questions. The better your input, the fewer corrective prompts you need later
- On Wix, you have more room to experiment after generation because revisions do not cost anything additional beyond your plan fee
4. Design and Templates
A website builder that lets you place elements anywhere gives you both more creative power and more opportunity to create something that looks unintentional.
| Design Feature | GoDaddy Airo | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Template library | AI-generated, no traditional templates | 2000+ templates by industry and style |
| Canvas type | Section-based | Open canvas (elements placed anywhere) |
| Section reordering | Move Up / Move Down arrows | Drag-and-drop |
| Text editing | Inline + AI rewrite button | Inline with AI rewriting on canvas |
| Image editing | Adjust, Finetune, Filters, Crop, Rotate | Drag to reposition, background removal, enhancement |
| Image library | Free Getty Images stock library built in | Wix stock images |
| Mobile preview | Device switch button (preview only) | Adaptive mobile view |
| Mobile layout control | Preview only | Adaptive but not responsive at breakpoints |
| Template switching | Not applicable | Locked at launch |
The Editor Experience in Detail
GoDaddy Airo AI Builder does not offer a traditional template library. Instead of browsing layouts and picking one, the AI generates your site’s design from your prompt and style answers.
The output for Mara & Co. produced a coherent, professionally styled site without any template selection, which is noticeably faster for users who find template browsing overwhelming.

Once in Edit mode, the available controls are:
- Section level: Navigation arrows to move between sections, Move Up and Move Down to reorder, zoom controls, Done to confirm changes
- Element level: Replace (swap content), Modify (edit in place), Reposition (move within a section), Delete, and an AI sparkle button for AI-driven suggestions
- Text editing: Inline with a floating toolbar for Bold, Italic, color picker, and an “Edit with Airo” button that rewrites the selected text with AI
- Image editing: A left panel with Adjust, Finetune, and Filters tabs, plus Crop and Rotate controls. Clicking Replace opens a media library with free Getty Images stock photos searchable by keyword

One significant note: Airo AI Builder does not support drag-and-drop section reordering. Moving a section requires using the arrow buttons one position at a time, which is functional for small adjustments but slow for significant page restructuring.
Wix starts with a library of over 2,000 professionally designed templates organized by industry and business type.

The open canvas editor lets you position any element anywhere on the page, which gives experienced designers real creative control and gives beginners the opportunity to produce something that looks chaotic if they are not careful.

The Quick Edit sidebar addresses this risk. Clicking any section opens a focused panel with all editable fields for that section collected in one place. This is one of the most practically useful features in any website builder tested, and it substantially reduces the time spent hunting for the right field to edit.

The most important design limitation on Wix is template lock-in. Once your site goes live, you cannot switch to a different template. If you launch with a minimal layout and later want a design with more visual impact, you are rebuilding the site from scratch, not changing a setting. This is worth considering carefully before launch:
- Choose your template by looking at how it handles the most content-heavy page on your site, not just the homepage
- If you think you might want a significantly different look in 12 months, build more flexibility into your initial template choice
- Wix Studio (a separate, agency-focused product) offers fluid responsiveness and CSS-level control for users who need more, but it is a different product from the standard Wix editor
5. eCommerce
The difference between a website with a checkout button and a real store shows up quickly when you compare both platforms side by side.
| eCommerce Feature | GoDaddy Airo (Commerce $20.99/mo) | Wix (Business $39/mo) |
|---|---|---|
| Product catalog | Unlimited | 50,000 products |
| AI product listing | Yes (up to 20 images at once) | Yes (9 pre-generated with variants) |
| Abandoned cart recovery | Yes | Yes (Business plan and above only) |
| Subscription transaction fee | None | 2% on Business, 0% on Business Elite |
| Payment processing | GoDaddy Payments + third-party | Wix Payments (15 countries) + third-party |
| Dropshipping | Not built in | Modalyst integration (250 products on Business) |
| Loyalty program | No | Yes (Business and above) |
| Vertical tools (restaurants, hotels, bookings) | Basic | Full dedicated tools |
| App marketplace | No | Yes |
What This Looks Like for a Real Business
Before manually adding a single product in Wix testing, the platform generated nine category-appropriate products with multiple variants, filter attributes, and AI-written descriptions for each.

That starting point is meaningful for any new store owner who has never built a product catalog before, because instead of staring at a blank dashboard wondering where to start, you have a working first draft to edit.
GoDaddy Airo’s AI product listing tool takes a different approach. You upload up to 20 product photos and the AI generates product names, descriptions, and pricing suggestions based on comparable products in the market.
This is useful for businesses that have existing inventory but have not yet written copy for it.

The subscription fee calculation on Wix is the most important number most new sellers miss:
If you are selling subscription products through Wix’s Pricing Plans feature:
- On the Core plan at $29/mo: 4% transaction fee on subscription sales
- On the Business plan at $39/mo: 2% transaction fee
- On Business Elite at $159/mo: 0% transaction fee
At 100 subscribers paying $30 per month:
- Core plan: $120/mo in subscription fees + $29 plan = $149/mo effective cost
- Business plan: $60/mo in fees + $39 plan = $99/mo effective cost
Upgrading from Core to Business saves $50 per month at that subscriber volume. The math shifts even further in Business’s favor as subscriber count grows.
Wix Payments geography is the second thing most sellers overlook:
Wix Payments operates in only 15 countries. Most of Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe are not supported. If your business is based outside those countries, you need a third-party payment gateway, which works but means:
- You lose the unified dashboard that makes Wix Payments valuable
- You pay third-party processing fees rather than Wix’s standard 2.9% plus $0.30
- Setup and reconciliation happen across two systems instead of one
Wix’s vertical tools for specific industries go well beyond generic eCommerce:
- Restaurants: Per-item stock toggles, variant pricing, polished menu design, and a pre-populated dummy data experience that makes initial setup feel manageable
- Hotels: Weekday and weekend pricing as default fields, offline payment support for all countries, Mercado Pago for Latin America, and a channel manager for syncing with Booking.com and Airbnb
- Service businesses: Direct booking from Google Search, Facebook, and Instagram without customers needing to visit the site
GoDaddy Airo does not have equivalents for these vertical tools. The Commerce plan is a competent general eCommerce solution, but it is not built around the specific operational needs of a restaurant, hotel, or multi-service booking business.
6. SEO and Performance
Five years ago, recommending Wix for a search-competitive business would have been debatable. The performance data has changed significantly since then.
| SEO and Performance Metric | GoDaddy Airo | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Core Web Vitals pass rate | Not independently tracked | 74.86% (Nov 2025) |
| Lighthouse SEO score (median) | Not independently tracked | 100/100 on desktop and mobile |
| Lighthouse Performance score | Not independently tracked | ~63% |
| JavaScript payload (median) | Not independently tracked | 1,633 KB |
| SSL | Included on all paid plans | Included on all paid plans |
| Custom metadata | Yes | Yes |
| XML sitemaps | Yes | Yes |
| Redirect management | Yes | Yes |
| Google Search Console integration | Yes | Yes |
| SEO assistant/guidance | Basic | AI SEO Assistant with plain-language issue explanations |
The Performance Story Behind the Numbers
The Core Web Vitals Technology Report tracks the percentage of real-world sites passing Google’s CWV thresholds across major platforms.
In January 2020, only 3% of Wix sites passed. By November 2025, that number had risen to 74.86%, placing Wix ahead of every major platform except Duda:
- Duda: 84.87%
- Wix: 74.86%
- Squarespace: 70.39%
- Webflow: 67.55%
- WordPress: 46.28%
- WooCommerce: 37.27%

That is one of the most significant five-year performance improvements in the industry’s measurement history. If you have been told that WordPress is the faster, more SEO-ready platform by default, the independent data no longer supports that claim at the median level.
Wix was also the only CMS analyzed in the 2025 Web Almanac to achieve a perfect median Lighthouse SEO score of 100 on both desktop and mobile for two consecutive years. The SEO fundamentals that matter for most businesses are all accessible without plugins on Wix:
- Customizable metadata and canonical URLs
- XML sitemaps and redirect management built into the dashboard
- Native integration with both Google Search Console and Semrush
- An AI SEO Assistant that flags site issues and explains each fix in plain language rather than raw technical errors
The one legitimate performance concern on Wix:
Wix ships a median of approximately 1,633 KB of JavaScript per page, compared to 655 KB for WordPress and 847 KB for Webflow. The platform’s infrastructure compensates for this at the CWV level for most standard sites, but heavy third-party app usage can push page speed outside the range the infrastructure can manage. If you are running five or more third-party apps simultaneously on your Wix site, performance becomes less predictable.
On GoDaddy Airo
GoDaddy Airo sites are hosted on GoDaddy’s infrastructure with SSL across all paid plans, CDN support, metadata editing, and Google Search Console integration.
The Airo AI Builder code goes through an explicit validation step during the build process, which the build log shows as a distinct “Validate Code” and “Validate Endpoint” stage before each page is marked complete.
There is no independent third-party CWV tracking data for GoDaddy Airo at the scale available for Wix, which makes a direct like-for-like comparison difficult.
The final category does not affect how your site ranks, but it determines what happens when something goes wrong after launch.
7. Support
The best support channel is the one that is actually available when something goes wrong at 11pm on a Sunday.
| Support Feature | GoDaddy Airo | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Phone support | Yes, 24/7 | No |
| Text support | Yes, 24/7 | No |
| Live chat | Yes, 24/7 | Yes, 24/7 |
| Human access friction | Low (direct channel access) | Moderate (chatbot before human) |
| AI help center | Basic | Strong (resolved technical query with 7-step answer + 4 articles + video) |
| Priority support | Not tiered by plan | Business Elite only |
| Community forum | Yes | Yes |
| Screen-sharing assistance | No | Yes |
What Testing Each Support System Revealed
GoDaddy Airo offers phone, text, and live chat support around the clock across all plan tiers. The channel breadth is notable because phone and text support are unusual at this price range among website builders.
For a small business owner who prefers to speak to someone rather than type, or who needs help while away from a computer, those two channels are a genuine differentiator.
During testing, when I contacted GoDaddy support to verify Airo eligibility terms, the response came quickly. The initial answer was vague, but the follow-up exchange moved toward a more specific clarification. The process worked, though getting a precise answer required persistence with a follow-up question.

Wix offers three paths when you click Help from the dashboard:
- An AI-powered search bar for specific technical questions
- A live chat channel for human support
- A screen-sharing assistant for step-by-step guidance
- Links to the community forum, customer care tickets, and a bug reporting tool
When I tested the AI help center with a specific technical Bookings question (clients could not see available time slots despite the schedule being configured), the response was useful:
- A structured seven-step answer covering working hours, service assignments, location matching, calendar conflicts, time slot intervals, booking window settings, and resource availability
- Links to four relevant help articles
- A video tutorial for the configuration steps
- A disclaimer that results should be verified

That level of response for a specific configuration question, delivered in seconds, is the AI help center working as intended.
Where Wix support has a friction problem:
When I tested the live chat by asking a billing question about upgrading plans, reaching a human required two separate requests. The Helpmate chatbot asked for more details when I asked to speak to a person, rather than connecting me directly. I had to ask again explicitly before the handoff was offered.

Once past the chatbot, the experience was positive. The agent (Karol) was helpful, asked the right clarifying questions, and surfaced a specific policy detail (the 14-day money-back guarantee on new plan upgrades) that the AI chatbot had not mentioned. But the friction of getting there was unnecessary.

What the difference means
- If you have a technical configuration question during business hours, Wix’s AI help center is likely the fastest path to an answer
- If you have a billing question, a policy question, or anything requiring a definitive yes or no from GoDaddy, calling or texting is faster than navigating a chatbot first
- If something breaks on your live site on a weekend night, GoDaddy’s phone channel is the more direct path to a real person
Overall Verdict: GoDaddy Airo vs Wix
Wix wins more individual categories in this comparison: design flexibility, eCommerce depth, and SEO performance data are all clearly stronger on Wix.
For a business that needs mature eCommerce tools, vertical solutions for restaurants or hotels, or a platform with independently verified search performance, Wix is the better platform.
But the category that matters most for the specific decision this comparison addresses is AI quality, and on that measure, GoDaddy Airo AI Builder is the more reliable tool. Wix’s AI misidentified a sustainable clothing brand as a restaurant. GoDaddy Airo produced copy and structure that reflected the specific details of the business prompt. For users choosing between these platforms primarily because they want AI to do real work from their business description, that difference is decisive.
GoDaddy Airo also wins on pricing and support. The paid entry point is meaningfully cheaper, the free tier allows one published site, and phone and text support are available around the clock without a chatbot standing between you and a person.
